Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.
Our optometrists take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

Interview with Dr. Rong
When Did you first know you wanted to be an eye doctor?
I was growing up in Beijing and my parents always wanted me to become a medical doctor. I studied hard and was accepted into Beijing Medical School. I had excellent training as an eye surgeon as well as a researcher on dry eye and infectious eye diseases.
How did you end up practicing as an optometrist in America?
I came to Boston as a visiting scholar at the Schepens Eye Research institute, which affiliated to the Harvard Medical School. After several years research and multiple publications at peer reviewed Journals at Harvard, l was promoted to faculty positions, as Assistant Scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute; as Instructor at Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School. The academics was very awarding but time consuming and funding for research was a constant concern. l always like working with patients and devote full time to providing clinical eye care. I decided to become an optometrist. l was accepted to the New England College of Optometry.
What did you do after graduating as an optometrist?
I started out working at Lenscrafters. After ten years i wanted to start my own practice. I wanted to have complete control over the quality and style of the patient care, and to be my own boss, of course. Now, I can offer complete eye care, including designer frames and contacts, in addition to excellence on the medical aspects. I love the freedom and independence of running my own eye care clinic, even though it’s a lot more logistics to manage.
What are you most passionate about being an eye doctor?
I love my patients. Some of them have been with me more than 10 years. They’re like my family, and they give me the honor to treat multiple generations. Taking care of people’s vision is very rewarding, is also exciting. Some days it‘s helping someone with an eye emergency, another day it could be diagnosing and treating a rare eye condition. Very often you will be so happy to see a big smile with beautiful glasses on my patients. Everyday is different, never be boring.
Our exceptional, friendly staff is our greatest asset. They are excited about what they do, and they care personally about getting the best results for our patients.
Our receptionist will try to accommodate your busy schedule by finding appointments that suit your needs. We will help you understand your insurance coverage and if financial arrangements are necessary, we will be glad to help you develop a plan to make your vision care treatment possible.
